Cogfordᵀᴹ Assessment Overview

At Cogford, we offer standardized cognitive assessments for children aged 2.7 years through adolescence. These assessments help schools and parents understand a child’s cognitive strengths and learning readiness. Our approach evolves with age to suit developmental needs:

  • Ages 2.7 – 7 years: Focus on early cognitive development and processing skills.

  • Ages 8 years and above: Emphasis on verbal and non-verbal cognitive abilities.

Each assessment is administered one‑on‑one by a trained professional and yields a detailed, individualized report.

Ages 2.7 to 7 Years

🧠 What Is Assessed?

Your child’s early cognitive development is evaluated across areas that underlie later academic success, including:

Verbal Processing:

  • Understanding spoken instructions

  • Naming familiar objects

  • Using language to solve simple problems

Non‑verbal Reasoning:

  • Recognizing patterns

  • Matching and sorting shapes or pictures

  • Solving puzzles without reliance on language

Spatial Reasoning:

  • Visualizing and manipulating shapes

  • Completing block patterns

  • Understanding part–whole relationships

These areas capture foundational thinking skills that support learning in school, such as following classroom directions, reasoning through new concepts, and approach to problem solving. The activities are age‑appropriate and engaging for young children.

🧰 How the Test Is Administered?

  • Administered one‑to‑one in a quiet room

  • Includes a series of playful tasks and picture‑based problem solving

  • Takes about 45–60 minutes

  • Examiner interacts with the child throughout, providing instructions and encouragement

  • Tasks are adjusted to the child’s age so they are neither too easy nor too difficult

  • You are not required to prepare your child for the assessment as the intention to assess the natural level

📝 What’s in the report:

  • Shows your child’s cognitive strengths and learning readiness across verbal and nonverbal reasoning.

  • Includes scores, summary, and practical recommendations for learning and enrichment.

Ages 8 Years and Above

🧠 What Is Assessed?

For children from ~8 years and up, we provide a brief but robust cognitive profile that measures:

Verbal (Crystallized) Reasoning:

  • Understanding and using language

  • Vocabulary and concept knowledge

  • Reasoning with words and ideas

Non‑Verbal (Fluid) Reasoning:

  • Logical problem solving

  • Pattern and sequence recognition

  • Ability to think without relying on language

These two areas are combined to give an overall cognitive ability score that reflects the child’s reasoning potential and readiness for school learning.

🧰 How the Test Is Administered?

  • Administered one‑to‑one by a trained assessor

  • Uses a mix of spoken questions and visual reasoning tasks
