Assessment Limitations & Ethical Statement
Effective Date: February 13, 2026
This document outlines the inherent limitations of Cogford's standardized educational assessments and articulates the ethical principles that guide our practices. It is designed to ensure transparency and responsible use of assessment results by all stakeholders.
1. Purpose and Nature of Assessments
Cogford provides standardized educational assessments designed to offer insights into an individual's cognitive abilities, learning styles, and problem-solving approaches. These assessments are valuable tools for supporting educational planning and school readiness. They are administered by trained professionals following strict standardized protocols to ensure fairness and reliability. Our services aim to provide a snapshot of an individual's performance in specific cognitive domains, contributing to a broader understanding of their educational profile.
2. Limitations of Assessments
It is crucial to understand the specific limitations of Cogford's assessments:
•Educational Tools Only: Our assessments are strictly educational tools. They are not medical, clinical, or psychological evaluations, nor do they provide diagnoses for any medical, clinical, or psychological conditions. Any interpretation of results outside of an educational context is inappropriate and beyond the scope of our services.
•One Part of a Larger Picture: Assessment results represent only one component of an individual's overall learning journey and cognitive profile. They should always be interpreted in conjunction with other relevant information, such as academic history, teacher observations, classroom performance, and other pertinent data. No single assessment can fully capture the complexity of an individual's abilities or potential.
•Influence of External Factors: An individual's performance on an assessment can be influenced by a variety of factors beyond their inherent abilities. These may include, but are not limited to, language exposure, cultural background, prior learning opportunities, comfort level during the assessment, and the specific testing conditions (e.g., fatigue, anxiety). Cogford strives to create optimal testing environments, but these external factors can still play a role.
•No Guarantee of Educational Outcomes: While our assessments provide valuable insights for educational planning, Cogford does not guarantee specific educational outcomes or academic success based on assessment results. Decisions regarding educational interventions, placements, or strategies are ultimately the responsibility of parents, guardians, and educational institutions.
•Schools' Discretion: Schools may use assessment outcomes for any educational purpose at their discretion. Cogford limits its liability for any educational outcomes or decisions made by schools or other clients based on the assessment results.
3. Ethical Principles and Test Security
Cogford adheres to strict ethical guidelines in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of assessments:
•Professional Standards: Our assessments are conducted by trained professionals who uphold the highest standards of ethical practice and professional conduct in educational assessment.
•Confidentiality: All assessment results and personal information are treated with the utmost confidentiality, as detailed in our Privacy Policy. Reports are individualized and shared only with parents/guardians, who may choose to share them with schools or other educational professionals at their discretion).
•Intellectual Property Protection: Assessment materials are standardized, proprietary, and protected by copyright. This includes specific test content, items, scales, and scoring algorithms. To maintain the integrity and validity of our assessments, these materials are not publicly disclosed. Any unauthorized reproduction, distribution, or sharing of assessment content is strictly prohibited and unethical.
•Integrity of the Assessment Process: We expect all clients to uphold the integrity of the assessment process. This includes refraining from coaching assessed individuals on specific test content or engaging in any activities that could compromise the standardization, fairness, or validity of the assessment. Client obligations are further detailed in our Informed Consent for Assessments document.
•Responsible Use of Results: We encourage the responsible and ethical use of assessment results. These results are intended to inform and guide, not to label or limit an individual. We advocate for a holistic view of each individual, integrating assessment data with other relevant information to foster positive educational development.
